English grad student Amy has been having an affair with married, much older astrophysicist Ed, who has a whole other family living in Edinburgh. When Ed disappears, the couple's relationship must continue only through Amy's persistence in keeping it alive. Through a series of texts, CDs, and Ed's camcorder, the romance continues. Amy tracks down Ed's messages from London to Edinburgh to a romantic island. In-between, Amy works as a stuntwoman, with her final stunt revealing the final piece to the mysterious romantic puzzle of their relationship.
